Imed Beghoura from UBI stayed at Alsitek Limited, Peterborough, UK, during May and June 2017.

During his secondment, he studied the expansion process (mixing procedure) and parameters involved (time and expansion volume) to produce foamed lightweight materials using different combinations of mining waste mud (MW), grounded waste glass (GG), metakaolin (MK) incorporating expanded granulated cork mixed with Alsitek alkaline activators (potassium based solutions) and as well aluminum powder and/or hydrogen peroxide; Also, he made a comparison of the results of this study with results of foamed lightweight materials obtained with sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solution, obtained at UBI.

During his staying in the UK, Imed also visited the civil engineering research centre at Brunel
university in London accompanied by Gediminas Kastiukas.
